Our Mission

How You Can Make a Difference

There's no limit to what a child can learn when equipped with the right school supplies. Crayons for Kids was created to provide learning supplies for students whose academic success is threatened by poverty. Crayons for Kids believes that achievement should never be impeded by financial status.

Crayons for Kids is a not-for-profit, charitable organization serving the Greater Tri-State Area. Our mission is to ensure that underprivileged students in low income communities have the basic tools necessary to succeed in school and life by donating school supplies directly to students and teachers in need. Art and Academic supplies are awarded to students and school districts in need at the beginning of the school year as well as on an ‘as needed’ basis through-out the year.

A crayon... It's such a simple tool, but it's a start. And more than anything, a new box of crayons in the hands of a child in a low income urban school sends a very clear message to kids...'you're worth it'.

Methods for achieving our mission
Through hand distributed “wish lists” and this website, Crayons for Kids will solicit supply requests from teachers in low income school districts and establish a ‘wish list inventory’ of supplies. “Crayons for Kids” will then collect school supply donations from organizations, individuals, and businesses in order to meet requests and distribute them directly to teachers.

Additionally, Crayons for Kids participates in Direct Distribution Events, where school supplies will be given directly to children.

In the Kids' Words

“Thankyou for the crayons and colored pencils... I like to do projects with them. The crayons and colored pencils help us because we never would have known fresh crayons and colored pencils... It makes us feel special and excited.”
